The Opportunity
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering major electricity infrastructure projects across the transmission and distribution network.
Working across a portfolio of EHV substation schemes, you will be responsible for managing projects throughout their lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through design development, construction, commissioning and final handover.
This role requires a strong blend of technical engineering expertise and project delivery capability, with responsibility for developing practical engineering solutions, managing stakeholders and ensuring safe, efficient and successful project execution.
Projects will include substation plant replacement, network reinforcement and customer connection schemes at voltage levels from 11kV through to 132kV.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of EHV substation projects from concept through to completion.
- Manage plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection schemes across 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV networks.
- Develop and review engineering solutions, feasibility studies and project options.
- Coordinate design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, risks and resource requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety legislation, CDM requirements, technical standards and quality expectations.
- Act as the key interface with customers, delivery partners, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Support outage planning and coordination activities where required.
- Review and manage contractor and supplier performance throughout project delivery.
- Lead project meetings and provide regular progress reporting to stakeholders.
- Ensure project documentation, asset records and engineering information are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and share technical knowledge across project teams.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification desirable.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and their application in major infrastructure projects.
- Significant experience delivering projects within electricity transmission and distribution networks or comparable electrical infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of substation plant and equipment at 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV.
- Experience working on plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection projects.
- Technical understanding of:
- Power transformers
- Switchgear
- Protection and control systems
- Substation primary plant
- Associated civil infrastructure
- Experience working on both greenfield and brownfield substation projects.
- Practical knowledge of AIS and GIS substations.
- Proven ability to manage projects through their full lifecycle from feasibility through to completion.
- Experience managing project budgets, programmes, risk and stakeholder engagement.
