The Corporate Leverage Team
Corporate Leverage within Shawbrook refers to non-Private Equity backed transactions in the SME space. We work with both private and publicly-owned corporates, providing cashflow lending solutions to a wide range of scenarios, from general corporate purposes, development/growth finance and acquisitions to full changes in ownership, often supporting clients through various stages of their growth cycle.
As Portfolio Manager, you will take end-to-end ownership of a portfolio of Corporate Leverage client accounts — managing them in line with Shawbrook's business model, credit procedures and best practice, and safeguarding the accuracy and integrity of client data and records throughout the relationship.
- External relationships: manage senior, board-level client stakeholders and their professional advisers — accountants, auditors and lawyers.
- Internal relationships: maintain close partnership with the Originations, Transaction Management, Customer Support and Risk teams.
- Authority: decision-making and mandate exercised within Shawbrook's Asset Class Policy, with genuine influence over portfolio direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a responsive, trusted point of contact for clients, supporting their growth plans and resolving day-to-day queries efficiently. Build and maintain strong, board-level client relationships that help maximise client lifetime value and retention, maintaining regular communication with key stakeholders, including regular face-to-face interactions.
- Develop a thorough understanding of clients’ business models, strategies, markets and financial performance. Ensure client information provided, data and practices consistently meet the standards set out in client agreements.
- Collaborate closely with Origination and Transaction Management colleagues to ensure potential opportunities are fully developed and driven forward within Shawbrook risk appetite.
- Review clients’ financial information, including statutory and management accounts, forecasts, budgets, regulatory reporting etc and analyse trends.
- Comply with all client reporting requirements, producing accurate, high-quality reviews/reports as needed to internal risk or Risk/Credit committees and periodic review meetings. Present findings and potential solutions in a clear and concise way to Credit, including Credit Committees as appropriate.
- Act as first line of defence, understanding risk drivers, monitoring triggers and ensuring risk is managed within Shawbrook’s lending credit policies and operational mandates, undertaking regular credit reviews as required. Proactively identify and report all risks as required.
- Maintain and promote high ethical and conduct standards. Identify and escalate compliance breaches, errors and potential fraud and keep bad debts and losses to a minimum through sound, proactive credit management.
- Seek to define best practice processes and activities. Lead or support change initiatives, improvement projects or infrastructure updates. Identify areas for improvement, proposing and providing solutions to assist with improving the performance of the business.
- Provide line management, oversight, review, coaching, training and development of commercial loans officers and analysts as appropriate. Where relevant, undertaking their annual appraisal and setting their performance goals for the year ahead.
- Champion best practice — leading or supporting change initiatives, process improvements and infrastructure updates that strengthen how the team operates.
