Leading international academic publisher Routledge, part of the Taylor and Francis Group, are currently looking to recruit an Editor II or III (Editor or Senior Editor) to take charge of their Economics Textbooks list.
This is a unique opportunity to take the reins of one of Routledge’s leading textbook lists, working with authors from across the world on both core and upper-level textbooks. The position sits within a team of dedicated textbook editors working across Business and Economics, under the prestigious Routledge imprint.
The position requires a highly motivated, creative and entrepreneurial editor with strong interpersonal, networking and communication skills. The role requires expertise in relationship management in terms of the existing portfolio of textbooks, and the ability to spot growth opportunities to further develop the programme of high-quality student focussed books and digital learning resources into new areas. The Editor is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the list, in alignment with wider editorial priorities and an overarching strategic vision from the team, and a key responsibility will be to source content that is aligned with commercial priorities and the company operating model.
What you’ll be doing:
- Commissioning student / instructor focussed content, in line with market needs and the commercial priorities of the company (including both textbooks and digital learning resources, where appropriate);
- Demonstrating strong research and analytical skills, and the ability to identify the most profitable commissioning opportunities to target, prioritising areas of growth, and identifying changes and developments in higher education teaching in the relevant areas;
- Managing key stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally, and acting as a product champion;
- Extensive digital and in person networking, with the possibility of some UK/ international travel.
What we are looking for:
The successful applicant should possess:
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret financial data;
- Excellent networking skills;
- Strong publishing knowledge and the ability to quickly develop subject knowledge across a range of areas;
- The ability to quickly understand the student and instructor market across a range of territories;
- Time management, prioritisation and organisational skills, self-motivation and the ability to work on your own initiative;
- Superb team-working skills, to work with internal and external contacts at all levels, and the ability to manage a range of key stakeholder relationships;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience of commissioning academic books is essential for this role. An interest in Business and Economics and related areas would be welcomed, but a background in this subject is not a requirement.
We will be conducting interviews for the Editor II position, but as we are committed to finding the right fit, the scope of the role may be adjusted to Editor III (Senior Editor), based on the candidate pool.
