Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) βοΈ
The RE holds full technical accountability for mechanical & ventilation engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle π.
Working to R2A2 (ED21), youβll provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance, while retaining responsibility for key engineering decisionsβeven when delegated π·ββοΈ.
Key Responsibilities & Experience:
- Strong mechanical engineering background in regulated, safety-critical environments β οΈ
- Proven technical accountability & decision-making experience β
- Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements π
- Establish governance, assurance & verification processes π§©
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams & resolve complex technical issues π€
- Manage technical risks effectively β‘
- Interface with project teams, regulators & assurance bodies π’
- Promote a strong safety, quality & compliance culture π‘οΈ
Essential Qualifications π
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline βοΈ
- Extensive experience aligned to a Responsible Engineer role ποΈ
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution π¨βπ§
- Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements π
Key Experience πΌ
- Experience as a Responsible Engineer or technical authority in nuclear/high-hazard environments β’οΈ
- Safety case development, substantiation & regulatory engagement π
- Full lifecycle delivery: concept β commissioning & handover π
- Managing deviations, concessions & non-conformances β οΈ
- Strong understanding of governance, assurance & gated processes π§©
- Contribution to strategic decision-making & continuous improvement π
Specialist Knowledge β
- SQEP in high-integrity piping design (incl. seismic & safety case) π©
- Machinery Directive & machinery design expertise βοΈ
- UKCA marking for new facilities π¬π§
- Familiarity with SEMs, Design Capability CoE & organisational structures π’
- SQEP aligned with SR0699 & ED21 standards π―
