(Highway & Concrete) Civil Engineer

ALTEN UK is seeking a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to support major infrastructure and engineering programmes within highly regulated and safety-critical environments. This role focuses on the delivery of civil engineering design solutions, with a particular emphasis on roads, highways, access routes, pavements, and associated infrastructure. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, contributing to the development of innovative, technically sound, and compliant engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle. - Location: Derby/Warrington - On Site: Hybrid 3x onsite - Clearance: Clearable - Experience Level: Mid Level Key Responsibilities: - Deliver civil engineering design, analysis, and assessment for roads, highways, access routes, pavements, drainage, and associated infrastructure. - Produce, review, and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation. - Develop design substantiation and provide technical justifications to support project requirements and regulatory compliance. - Work closely with structural, geotechnical, drainage, environmental, transportation, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions. - Support design reviews, technical assurance activities, and the resolution of engineering queries throughout project delivery. - Ensure all engineering outputs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, quality requirements, and health & safety regulations. - Contribute to risk identification, mitigation activities, and engineering governance processes. - Support continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and the development of junior engineers and graduates. - Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and project teams to manage technical interfaces and project deliverables. Required Skills: - Proven experience in the design and assessment of roads, highways, pavements, and associated civil infrastructure. - Strong understanding of engineering design processes, design substantiation, technical reporting, and assurance requirements. - Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams. - Ability to manage technical interfaces and coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines. - Proficiency with relevant civil engineering design and modelling software. - Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience. Desirable Skills: - Knowledge or experience of American engineering codes and standards. - Experience working within regulated or safety-critical industries. - Experience within the nuclear sector, defence, energy, transportation, or major infrastructure programmes. - Previous involvement in large-scale engineering or new-build projects. - Chartered Engineer status or advanced progress towards professional registration.
