ALTEN is supporting one of the UK's largest and most complex nuclear new build programmes, Hinkley Point C (HPC). We are seeking a talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our engineering team in Bristol and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure and nuclear construction activities. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will provide geotechnical expertise throughout the design, assessment, construction and operation phases of major civil engineering works. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a nationally significant project while developing your career within a leading engineering consultancy. Key Responsibilities: - Deliver geotechnical engineering assessments and technical studies for major infrastructure projects. - Review and interpret ground investigation data, laboratory testing and geological reports. - Support foundation design, earthworks, retaining structures and slope stability assessments. - Prepare geotechnical calculations, technical reports and design documentation. - Collaborate with civil, structural and construction teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery. - Review contractor submissions and provide technical recommendations. - Identify and manage geotechnical risks, ensuring compliance with project and regulatory requirements. - Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and stakeholder discussions. Required Skills: - Experience working in geotechnical engineering within infrastructure, energy, nuclear, rail or major construction projects. - Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and ground investigation techniques. - Experience using relevant geotechnical software and analytical tools. - Ability to prepare and review technical reports and engineering calculations. - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. - Knowledge of UK engineering standards and regulations. Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience. Desirable Skills: - Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (ICE, GeolSoc or equivalent). - Experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence or energy. - Familiarity with Eurocodes and UK design standards. - Experience working on large-scale infrastructure programmes.
