We are seeking a motivated Layout Engineer to join our growing team, supporting the design and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) routing and assemblies within Nuclear Projects.
In this role, you will develop layouts, arrangements, and modularised assemblies, ensuring they meet technical, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning requirements. Working at the heart of a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with layout, installation, CAD, and systems engineers to develop module clusters that meet all system and transverse requirements.

- On Site: Remote with Occasional site visit to Manchester/ Derby/ Warrington - Anyone site

- Experience Level: 4-8 YOE
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate Conventional Island layouts to ensure all technical and programme requirements are met.
- Progress design packages through the gated Design Review process.
- Proactively engage with stakeholders to capture requirements, assumptions, and constraints.
- Understand and manage risks associated with Conventional Island installations, making decisions aligned with programme risk.
- Work in accordance with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, ensuring compliance with corporate and legislative standards.
- Collaborate with installation, layout, and CAD engineers to develop module clusters that meet system, component, and transverse requirements.
- Ensure quality is maintained throughout the SMR lifecycle by contributing to technical reviews and project review gates.
- Support configuration and data management, ensuring accurate and controlled design information.
- Apply knowledge of risk management, data‑driven manufacturing, installation process improvement, and construction planning to optimise design outcomes.
Required Skills:
- Experience in Plant Layout, Piping Layout or general Layout background in complex projects.
- Proven experience delivering installation design programmes to time, cost, and quality.
- Experience leading the development of design solutions from concept to detailed definition using Robust Design methodologies, including DfX and trade‑off studies.
- Strong logical problem‑solving skills and engineering judgement to determine optimal modular arrangements.

Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in nuclear, power generation, or other safety-critical industries
- Knowledge of ONR safety principles, INPO guidance, or similar regulatory frameworks
