As a Quality Engineer, you will join our Birmingham team to support our activities within the Energy sector. You will lead and assure the Quality Management System (QMS) for projects involving mechanical pumping systems, electrical installations, control & instrumentation, and WIMES-compliant equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring that all testing, inspection, and acceptance criteria required by the Scope/Works Information, NEC3 Section 4, and WIMES specifications are met and fully evidenced for Completion and Takeover. - Location: Birmingham - On Site: Hybrid - Clearance: BPSS - Experience Level: 5- 10YOE Key Responsibilities: Quality Management Systems - Develop, implement, and maintain project quality processes in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements. - Prepare and manage Project Quality Management Plans (PQMPs). - Control quality documentation including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and quality records. - Ensure compliance with client specifications, contractual requirements, and internal procedures. - Support project teams in achieving quality objectives throughout the project lifecycle. Internal & External Auditing - Plan and conduct internal audits across design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning activities. - Coordinate and manage external audits involving clients, certification bodies, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory organisations. - Produce detailed audit reports and manage findings through to successful close-out. - Maintain traceability and objective evidence demonstrating compliance with quality requirements. Supplier Quality Assurance - Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT). - Conduct supplier and subcontractor quality audits. - Review material certification, manufacturing documentation, and inspection records. - Verify supplier competency, compliance, and quality performance. - Support equipment inspections and acceptance activities. Continuous Improvement - Lead root cause investigations and problem-solving activities. - Manage corrective and preventive action programmes. - Drive lessons learned initiatives and process improvement activities. - Support reduction of rework, defects, and quality-related project risks. Stakeholder Engagement - Advise Project Managers, Engineers, and site teams on quality-related matters. - Communicate quality risks, audit findings, and compliance requirements clearly and effectively. - Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and project stakeholders. - Support successful project delivery through proactive quality assurance and governance. Required Skills: - Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems aligned to ISO 9001. - Proven experience developing and managing Project Quality Management Plans (PQMPs). - Experience managing NCRs, corrective actions, preventive actions, and quality documentation. - Demonstrable internal and external auditing experience. - Strong understanding of water and wastewater pumping systems. - Experience supporting mechanical and electrical installation activities. - Working knowledge of Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) systems. - Experience with testing, commissioning, and handover processes. - Supplier quality assurance, FAT, SAT, and audit experience. - Root cause analysis and continuous improvement expertise. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to interpret: - Pump curves - Electrical schematics - Cable calculations - Instrumentation datasheets - FAT/SAT management and commissioning oversight - Supply chain quality assurance and audit capability - Structured defects and NCR management Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent military experience - ISO 9001 Lead Auditor (IRCA or equivalent) - NEC3 accreditation (Supervisor or PM training) - Strong experience in MEICA installations and pumping systems - Understanding of WIMES standards - CSCS/SMSTS or equivalent SHE qualification Desirable Skills: - Membership of CQI (Practitioner or Chartered) - Water industry / AMP programme experience - NDT/Welding inspection (CSWIP/PCN) - CompEx or electrical authorisation familiarity
